The purpose of the Womxn in Student Affairs Knowledge Community (WISAKC) is to give voice to the needs of womxn in student affairs and to provide professional development opportunities through both regional and national activities designed to address gender equity and prompt personal growth.

The Womxn in Student Affairs Knowledge Community is proud to offer the Womxn’s Issues Research and Scholarship Award. 

The Womxn in Student Affairs Knowledge Community Womxn’s Issues Research and Scholarship Award is administered annually to one or two Womxn in Student Affairs Knowledge Community members to support their research and/or scholarly activity related to womxn’s issues.

Purpose

The purpose of the NASPA Womxn in Student Affairs Knowledge Community Womxn’s Issues Research and Scholarship Award is:

  • to recognize outstanding research that contributes to the knowledge of womxn’s issues in student affairs and higher education;

  • to support the creation of knowledge related to womxn’s issues; and

  • to support the dissemination of knowledge related to womxn’s issues within NASPA and the higher education community.

Award Criteria

Required Criteria

  • Applicant must be a NASPA professional affiliate or student member.

  • Applicant must be employed at a NASPA member college or university and/or be enrolled in a master’s or doctoral program on either a full or part-time basis at the time of application.

  • Applicant must demonstrate how their research/scholarly work is connected to womxn’s issues in student affairs and higher education.

  • Applicant must articulate how their research/scholarly work connects to at least one of the NASPA Professional Competencies.

Preferred Criteria

In accordance with the KC’s mission as it relates to womxn in student affairs, the selection committee is particularly interested in proposals that reflect research and scholarship work that:

  • is related to the intersectionality of womxn’s identities,

  • is related to the experiences of womxn’s underrepresented and minoritized identities and social locations, and/or

  • sheds light on underrepresented aspects of womxn’s experiences

 

Recognition

Recipients of this scholarship award will:

  • Receive a monetary scholarship award to support their research and scholarly activity to be used within one calendar year of being awarded (e.g. March - March).

  • Provide a brief summary of how this scholarship award was/would be used by the recipient to support their research and scholarship.

  • Be highlighted through WISA KC’s social media, email communication, and other channels.

  • Be recognized at the WISA KC Open Meeting during the NASPA Annual Conference.

  • Have their work considered for distribution through the NASPA WISA KC.

  • Have the opportunity for professional development through mentoring from NASPA WISA KC members who are scholars or scholar-practitioners.

  • Be invited to submit a proposal for WISA KC’s article in the Annual Knowledge Community Publication.
