2020-2021 Regional SERVE Applications Open
Region IV-W
May 20, 2020
NASPA Region IV-West is currently recruiting applicants for its fourth cohort of the Regional SERVE (Supporting, Expanding, and Recruiting Volunteer Excellence) Academy for the 2020-2021 academic year. The NASPA Region IV-West SERVE Academy engages 15 student affairs staff members at all levels (graduate students, new professionals, mid-level professionals, senior-level professionals, and faculty members) in a free online learning academy and mentorship experience, with the goal of creating a pipeline of individuals who are interested in learning more about becoming volunteer leaders in the region. The Region IV-West SERVE Academy experiences includes the following 3 components:
- Cohort members participate in a monthly Zoom online learning session from October 2020 through June 2021 on topics related to learning more about NASPA as an organization. Past topics have included the History of NASPA, Understanding the Region IV-West Advisory Board Structure, NASPA Knowledge Communities, the NASPA Professional Competency Areas for Student Affairs Educators, NASPA Finances, Connecting How NASPA Members Fit into the Larger NASPA Picture, etc.
- Cohort members are also matched with a seasoned NASPA Region IV-West volunteer leader to serve as their Regional SERVE Mentor.
- Following the final Zoom learning session, the cohort will collectively design a cohort project in support of a NASPA Region IV-West or national strategic priority. Representatives of the cohort are invited to present this recommendation to the NASPA Region IV-West Advisory Board.
Below is a quote from Josh Doak, Assistant Director of Student Life at Baker University and a member of the 2018-2019 NASPA Region IV-West SERVE Cohort about his experience with the program:
The Region IV-West SERVE program has provided me an abundance of new and valuable information, especially for a young professional in the region. Through this program, I have been able to learn about many opportunities within the NASPA IV-West region. Since returning to the region, I also wanted to utilize the program to build my connections with other professionals. I have been able to meet new professionals, along with hearing from the current influencers of the student affairs profession. The opportunity to meet with your cohort virtually each month along with connecting with a personal student affairs mentor makes this program the most immersive and rewarding professional development opportunity I have ever experienced. I encourage any new or mid-level professionals that are looking to take that next step in their Student Affairs career to apply for the NASPA Region IV-West SERVE Program.
Applications are currently open at https://apps.naspa.org/engage/post_detail_page.cfm?vpostid=2670 and will close on July 31.
