Lynn Huynh

University of Nebraska Lincoln (UNL)

Masters in Educational Administration with a specialization in Student Affairs

Hometown: Alhambra, California

Undergraduate Institution: Humboldt State University (HSU)

Why did you choose your graduate institution? Peg Blake, current HSU Vice President of Student Affairs and I were on HSU University Center Board of Directors. She told me about her work at UNL and told me that I should really look into it. That was during my last year on campus, fast-forward about two years when I was actually applying to graduate programs, UNL popped up back on my radar. I was interested in the many different assistantship opportunities, the curriculum, as well as the opportunity to live and work in a different state.

Why did you want to go to graduate school? I knew I was always going to stay in academia and pursue different degrees because I was raised to think that way. It was never an option of whether I go and finish an undergraduate degree. Why I chose specifically this graduate school program was because of the experience I had as undergraduate student, along with my passion for education and helping others.

What area(s) of Student Affairs interest you most? Residence Life, Multicultural Center, First Generation Student Support Programs, and Admissions.

What are your hobbies? Cooking, painting, reading, theater design, and watching movies.

If you could take a year off from work/school what would you do? Without financial limitations- travel the world, realistically(?) I would spend time with my family and do whatever they wanted to do.

What is your dream job? Beyond the higher education world- a florist, within higher ed at some point ideally I would like to reach a director of (fill in the blank with name of office/department).

The best gift you have ever received? My education, sounds cliché but I really appreciate my mom allowing and supporting me in all my educational decisions and it has shaped who I am.

My secret passion is? To meet Meryl Streep and have a full day of acting lessons with her.

What would you like to be remembered for? I think I would like to be remembered for being myself and being true to that.
