Event Details:

Date: Friday, October 18

Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM CST
Location: Online via Luma (Link Provided Upon Registration)
Audience: Anyone Involved in Graduate and Professional Education!

This virtual meetup will bring together higher education professionals from across the country who are working to enhance the graduate student experience. It’s an excellent opportunity to discuss challenges, share best practices, and collaborate on innovative solutions. Below are some topics of discussion based on submissions by current registrants!

Key Topics of Discussion:

  1. Supporting and Engaging Distance Education Students. As online and hybrid graduate programs continue to grow, we’ll explore strategies for keeping distance education students connected to campus resources, engaged in their learning communities, and supported throughout their academic journeys.
  2. The Role of Professional Advisors. Professional advisors play a crucial role in supporting graduate and professional students with academic tasks and navigating the institution’s policies. We’ll dive into how these advisors can work alongside faculty mentors who focus on career development, to provide holistic support for students.
  3. Graduate Bridge Programs. Bridge programs help prepare students for the rigors of graduate study, especially for those coming from diverse academic or professional backgrounds. We’ll discuss the development and implementation of these programs, as well as how they can help reduce barriers to graduate education.
  4. Professional Development Workshops. Professional development is a critical part of graduate education. We’ll share ideas for offering workshops that prepare students for careers both within and outside of academia.
  5. Graduate Student Activity Fees – Best Practices. Graduate student activity fees can be a contentious topic, especially when it comes to ensuring students get value from the fees they pay. We’ll discuss how to create transparent policies, allocate funds effectively, and develop programming that meets the unique needs of graduate students.
  6. STEM Graduate Students: Addressing Their Unique Needs. STEM students face specific challenges in graduate school. We will take some time to discuss the unique needs of STEM students and how we can support their academic and professional development.

Why Attend?

This virtual networking event is more than just a discussion—it’s a chance to expand your professional network, gain insights from colleagues, and collaborate on ideas that could positively impact graduate education at your institution.
