This past year has, no doubt, been a roller-coaster in public policy. Staying updatedon trends in local, national, and international legislative action is key to being great student affairs professionals and global citizens. As professionals, we have a duty tosupport and guide our students through thenumerousand often overwhelmingchanges in public policies. In order to do so, we need to stay plugged in, and what better way to do so at NASPA 2023? 

The NASPA 2023 Conference is an amazing opportunity for personal and professional growth.Being able to connect with and learn from experts in the field from near and far is exhilarating, but it can also be overwhelming.On top of that, diving into the world of public policy can prove to be a daunting task.To get you started, theNASPA Public Policy Division (PPD) has compiled a virtual guide of sessions that seek to educate and support conference attendees in gaining a better understanding of public policies and how they impacthigher education practices.  

This conference guide is rooted in the 2021-2024 NASPA Public Policy Division Agenda, which is largely U.S. policy centric but aligns itself with four important frameworks: 1) advocacy for student success 2) equity, inclusion, and social justice 3) research and scholarship 4) professional development and engagement.As you continue your professionaljourney, NASPAPPDencourages you to place a public policy lens at the forefront of your growth and your service to the field of student affairs.

The presentation will focus on how student affairs professionals can be proactive in supporting LGBTQ+ students. The presenter will also touch on three legal areas and their impacts on LGBTQ+ students’ right and experiences. The session’s target groups are senior-level and mid-level student affairs professionals.

During this session, Maureen Grewe will present best practices for informal resolution processes for students navigating interpersonal violence concerns. The session’s target groups are mid-level and new student affairs professionals.
