Why I Give: Sylvia Scott

Supporting the Profession Region IV-W Region IV-W
November 12, 2018 Sylvia Scott Off-Campus Student Services, University of Arkansas

As we approach the NASPA Annual Day of Giving on November 27, our NASPA Region VI-West colleagues reflect on their journey and commitment to NASPA through giving to the NASPA Foundation.  These NASPA members are making it real for other members to consider their opportunities to give and support NASPA initiatives that make a difference.

Featuring Sylvia Scott, Director, Off-Campus Student Services, University of Arkansas

I have not given a great deal of money to the NASPA Foundation, but I do enjoy giving back.  We all need to remember that it isn’t how much we give, but that everybody gives what they are able to those initiatives and organizations that inspire them.  NASPA has inspired me!  I have met some amazing people through NASPA---people that I look up to and cherish.  Many of them are “Pillars of our Profession”.  I truly enjoy giving to recognize those who make such unselfish contributions to help others of us grow and develop.  I have acknowledged several of these individuals through the years with a gift to the NASPA Foundation to let them know how grateful I am for their volunteer contributions.  I am also extremely grateful for the knowledge community that I helped develop and served with for several years---Adult Learners and Students with Children.   So much support was given to me as a professional by fellow leaders of this KC and by the board and individual members of Region 4-W, my home region.

I will be eternally grateful for NASPA and the people I know that have been associated with its leadership through the years.  Although I plan to retire next summer, I will continue to support the Foundation in honor of those who have helped make my experience with the organization so valuable and rich.
