Why I...Tania Velazquez

Latinx/a/o
September 13, 2019 Tania Velazquez Suffolk County Community College

Tania Velazquez is the College Director for Career Services at Suffolk County Community College and LKC Region II State Ambassador.

Why did you join the LKC?

I wanted to get connected to other Latinx professionals in the field. I've been raising my family and now I am at a point that I want to become more professionally connected, especially with individuals that I feel I can benefit from professionally as well as also give back to in return.
Why did you choose your higher ed career path?

I always knew that I wanted to work with individuals on how they could better their circumstances and encouraging them to work towards their goals. I wanted to do so by working with teenagers and realized through internships that my passion was working with college students. I find it rewarding to experience the journey a student may take and how it's different for everyone.

Share with us a fun fact. It can be silly, funny, random, or anything you want to make it.

If I was not in higher education I would be a holistic chef. I love food, cooking and studying wellness. Food heals the body. It's my passion on the side but is very time consuming! So for now, I work in higher education!
