Collaborating with Local Health Departments to Enhance College Substance Use Prevention Efforts

College health alcohol and other drug programs have always struggled with keeping up with the ever changing substance abuse environment. This includes oxycontin, heroin, fentanyl, and, most recently, vaping. While colleges try to keep up, local health departments have developed programs to deal with these issues in their community. Health departments' resources include federal grant money, state money, and wide community support including schools, local police, local government, emergency services, faith-based, and local hospitals.

This live briefing explores how to make connections with local health departments, share resources and use local, state and federal supports.

• identify health topics and resources available at the health department; and 
• explain federal, state and local funding and coinciding programs.
