First 90 Days

Health, Safety, and Well-being
BACCHUS

From orientation to midterms, the first 90 days play an integral role in the development of student behaviors, including alcohol use behaviors. The first few months on campus include traditionally high risk drinking times (e.g. homecoming), and may represent a new environment with more access to alcohol. This live briefing will help prevention teams on campus to identify and address current and potential underage and high risk drinking efforts on campus. This session will explore opportunities for cross campus collaboration (athletics, residence life, fraternity/sorority life) the role of social media as a tool for information dissemination and engagement, and resources such as the College Alcohol Interventions Matrix (CollegeAIM). This session will review both evidence-based and evidence-informed practices for collegiate prevention teams.

This live briefing is a great opportunity for peer education groups to plan their first 90 days and then to discuss how to follow-up with a year of effective programming that will be shared at the 2017 BACCHUS Initiatives of NASPA General Assembly in Denver, CO.

Attendees will leave this live briefing with an understanding of different strategies that may be implemented, including social norms campaigns, TIPS training, bystander intervention, and environmental management. An electronic toolkit will also be available for download.
