Fostering Leadership in Online Environments

Often leadership scholars and practitioners have stated "Well, ANYTHING can technically fall under leadership" and that is very true. How can we meet this expansive need? By offering curricular and co-curricular leadership options online.

I propose we discuss leadership development more broadly through an online lens. I am a faculty member at a well-respected and accredited online Leadership Studies program at Marshall University. We currently have over 200 students enrolled. There is a demand for developing leaders in a legitimate program. We have undergone a Quality Assured certification (a competitive and rigorous academic certification process) and would like to share our successes. In order to address practitioners, ways to engage and promote leadership capacity will also be addressed by the presenters.  Finally, online educational resources will be provided and participants will have an opportunity to ask the presenters questions.

Learning Outcomes

By attending this sessions, participants will be:

• able to implement curricular leadership development techniques;
• able to implement co-curricular leadership development techniques; and
• introduced to Educational Apps/Resources for online learners.
