Queer People of Color in Higher Education (QPOC) (2017) is a comprehensive work discussing the lived experiences of queer people of color on college campuses. This book will create conversations and provide resources to best support students, faculty, and staff who are people of color and identify as LGBTQ. Leading researchers and practitioners have remarkable writing that concisely summarizes current literature while also adding new ways to address issues of injustice related to racism, sexism, homophobia, heterosexism, and transphobia. Authors & a co-editor of the book will share their insights, research processes & findings, and engage with the audience in the next steps toward better serving QPOC in our higher education institutions.
Learning Outcomes
By attending this session, participants will:
- better learn the scope of research and issues related to the intersections of LGBTQ identity & race with religion, rural environments, hate & discrimination, belonging, justice, advancement, amongst other topics of study;
- better comprehend the lived experiences of queer students, staff, and faculty of color;
- reflect upon and identify institutional areas of support or need to better serve QPOC on college campuses; and
- identify policies and practices that marginalize QPOC faculty, staff, and students through engaging with researchers & practitioners across the nation who focus on QPOC equity, inclusion, and advancement.
