ZZZs into AAAs: Best Practices in Sleep Promotion for College Students

Health, Safety, and Well-being Wellness and Health Promotion Graduate Mid-Level New Professional
Mandy Colbert Patrick Lukingbeal

Lack of and low quality sleep have been directly connected to lower mental health, increase stress, and lower academic performance in college students. Come join our panel of higher education experts to explore the basics of sleep research, examine the problem we face at our universities, and discuss best practices in sleep promotion!

The importance of sleep quality and quantity is often overlooked when thinking about college student well-being, but is one of the most critical to understand. Research has consistently shown that lack of and lower quality sleep impacts learning and memory, can increase stress, and is directly linked with poor academic performance - but as we know, our students will sacrifice it quickly when met with competing priorities.

As higher educational professionals, what do we need to understand when it comes to the basics of sleep trends, what research has and is being conducted, and what best practices are out there to encourage sleep health? This panel of higher education sleep experts will teach you about what you can do within your environment to prioritze sleep, encourage healther behaviors, and learn about the linkages between sleep and student success.
