The NASPA Region IV-East Conference Committee invites you to join us in Cleveland, Ohio! The 2024 NASPA Region IV-E Conference is a three-day in-person gathering of higher education professionals who come together to reflect, learn, network, and be inspired.
This year’s conference theme is "Bridging Boundaries: Connecting the Past to Higher Education's Future." The theme focuses on bridging historical legacies with contemporary challenges in higher education. It explores how student affairs professionals serve as bridges between different campus communities and support students in navigating the complexities of college life, drawing inspiration from Cleveland's Hope Memorial Bridge and its significance as a symbol of connection and hope.
Through inspiring keynote presentations, thought-provoking educational sessions, and numerous opportunities to re-connect with colleagues and make new friends, the 2024 NASPA Region IV-E Conference will be a premier, future-focused professional development experience.
Land Acknowledgment
The 2024 IV-East Conference Committee honors and acknowledges the original stewards of the land where the conference is taking place including the Cayuga, Delaware, Miami, Odawa, Ojibwe, Potawatomi, Seneca, Shawnee, and Wyandotte, as well as the unnamed tribes and tribal members who currently reside in Northeast Ohio.
Message from the Co-Chairs
The NASPA Region IV-E Conference Committee is excited to welcome you to Cleveland, Ohio October 26-29, 2024 for a phenomenal conference. We look forward to sharing new ideas, past successes, and future challenges as we explore our theme Bridging Boundaries: Connecting the Past to Higher Education’s Future. The art deco figures featured in our theme represent the eight guardian figures that adorn the Hope Memorial Bridge in Cleveland and were designed to represent the progress of ground transportation.
The stone guardians can also remind us of the progress and important role of higher education despite the challenges we current manage and lead on our campuses. Our speakers, programs and networking will offer opportunities for us to reflect and discuss many of the issues of our everyday work. There is much to celebrate, reflect upon, and plan for as we prepare for the next academic year and we hope you will join us at the Region IV-E Conference in Cleveland, Ohio October 26-29, 2024!
Registration
Registration as a member is based on individual membership status at the time of the event. If your current membership will expire prior to the event, you will have the option to renew at the time of registration to receive the member rate.

Keynote Speakers
Dr. Amelia Parnell, NASPA President & CEO | Sunday, October 27th | 6pm
Dr. Amelia Parnell is an accomplished higher education executive and an internationally recognized thought leader regarding current issues and emerging trends in the field. She is a passionate advocate for higher education as a tool for personal advancement and impact, and she seeks opportunities to partner with organizations and individuals who share her sincere commitment to centering students' needs.
In her prior role as vice president for research and policy for NASPA, Dr. Parnell led many of the association's scholarly and advocacy-focused activities and fostered partnerships with college administrators, researchers, grant makers, and other higher education professionals.
Amelia recently completed four years of service on the Board of Directors for EDUCAUSE, where she was Chair of the Finance & Investment Committee and the Audit Committee. She is also the past chair of the Higher Education Equity Network (HEEN), a collective impact network representing more than 25 organizations at the forefront of addressing racial equity in higher education.
Amelia enjoys opportunities to teach, and she is energized by making complex concepts easy to understand. She has had enriching engagements with students and peers as an adjunct instructor and lecturer and she is the author of the book, You Are a Data Person, which she wrote to encourage all higher education professionals to discover and embrace their unique data identity.
Amelia holds a Ph.D. in higher education from Florida State University and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in business administration from Florida A & M University.
Dr. Laura Bloomberg, Cleveland State University President | Monday, October 28th |12pm
Dr. Laura Bloomberg was appointed the eighth president of Cleveland State University (CSU) in the spring of 2022. She had previously served at CSU as provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, starting in the fall of 2021. Since being appointed university president, she has guided strategic initiatives that support CSU’s ability to create an academic community in which everyone can thrive and enrich the surrounding region.
Before Cleveland State, Bloomberg served eight years as dean and prior associate dean of the Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. In that capacity, Bloomberg led the global expansion of the school, established a national pathway program for college students underrepresented in public policymaking, launched an internationally focused Human Rights degree, and developed the Mandela Washington Fellowship program to support young leaders from countries across Africa. She successfully led the Humphrey School’s $20M Leading Together fundraising campaign.
Dr. Todd Diacon, Kent State University President | Tuesday, October 29 | 11am
Todd Diacon became Kent State University's 13th president in July 2019. A tireless advocate for student success, President Diacon has more than 30 years of experience in higher education leadership.
His commitment to college affordability and access has resulted in nationally recognized initiatives to boost student retention, graduation rates and academic achievement.
President Diacon joined Kent State as provost in 2012 and has been at the forefront of expanding Kent State's international presence, has led the charge to recruit and promote more diverse faculty, and has helped the university attract world-renowned leaders in the fields of aviation, engineering, brain health, liquid crystals, and peace and conflict studies.
Before coming to Kent State, President Diacon served as deputy chancellor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he also was a professor of history. He began his career at the University of Tennessee as a history professor.
A native of Wellington, Kansas, President Diacon specializes in agrarian history and the history of central state power in Brazil. He earned his bachelor's degree from Southwestern College in Kansas and his master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
