Effective Leadership During Upheaval and Uncertainty: What Presidents and Provosts Need from Their VPSAs

Workshop Supporting the Profession VP for Student Affairs

Vice presidents for student affairs are called upon to lead effectively during periods of crisis, and that has never been more true than today. Following a welcome by NASPA President Kevin Kruger, Dr. Teresa Sullivan, interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Michigan State University and president emerita at the University of Virginia, will share key takeaways from lessons learned, explore strategies to lead through a crisis while managing everyday business and avoiding getting swept up in the turmoil, and offer suggestions for how to best support your president and provost. Dr. Michele Murray, vice president for student affairs and dean of students at College of the Holy Cross will engage Dr. Sullivan and attendees in a lively discussion about the dos and don’ts of crisis leadership and the challenges and opportunities facing our institutions during the pandemic and anticipated post-COVID-19 world. Participation in this online offering is limited to the highest-ranking student affairs officer an an institution, usually the vice president for student affairs.
