This three-part series will inform vice presidents and senior-level student affairs officers about new and important findings which improve professional practice to restore and transform the fraternity and sorority experience. Each program in the series will draw from timely research focusing on the intersection of fraternity and sorority issues, solutions, and professional practice. Topics will include strategy and staffing for your institutions’ fraternity and sorority community, as well as intervention and prevention strategies for substance misuse and hazing.

Session I: Strategy Matters: How to Build the Ideal Approach for your Campus Fraternity and Sorority Community

What guiding ideas should staff use to filter, prioritize, and align fraternity and sorority life programs?  What is administrative leadership engineering this department to do as part of your student affairs operation? Engage with experts and peers to explore both the concept of strategies and what fraternity and sorority life strategies are suitable for your institution. There will be an opportunity for you to pose questions, interact with panelists, and receive curated literature and new insights from emerging studies on Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL) strategies.

Session II: Effectiveness of Intervention and Prevention Strategies for Substance Misuse and Hazing

A panel of devoted hazing, violence, and substance misuse experts will share key approaches to how fraternity and sorority life programs can approach prevention and intervention strategies that are grounded in research. Panelists will summarize approaches that will lead to safer fraternity and sorority chapters and communities. This moderated panel discussion will build upon selecting strategies that matter most.  

Session III: Staffing and Strategy Matter: How to Build the Ideal Strategy for your Campus Fraternity and Sorority Community

This final webinar will focus on staffing and building the right team for the strategic tasks. Given the outcomes, strategy, and work of your fraternity and sorority life program or department, do you have the right structure, do you have the right number of people, and are those people assigned to the right work? Panelists and moderators will highlight their own work as well as discuss NASPA’s Excellence in Fraternity and Sorority Life Staffing strategies. Emerging research will be shared on how matching staff competencies with strategies may yield more sustainable teams.
