Old Dominion University vice president named 2017 Pillar of the Profession

Award honors Vice President of Student Engagement & Enrollment Services

WASHINGTON, D.C. —The NASPA Foundation is pleased to recognize outstanding members
of the student affairs and higher education community through the Pillars of the Profession.
Ellen Neufeldt, Vice President of Student Engagement & Enrollment Services at Old Dominion
University, has been named a 2017 Pillar of the Profession. NASPA – Student Affairs
Administrators in Higher Education is the leading association for student affairs professionals.
“Dr. Neufeldt has been instrumental in the innovative response to meeting the emerging needs of
students.” says John R. Broderick, Old Dominion University’s President. “She has consistently
espoused the value of student support and success for our students. The energy, enthusiasm and
care she demonstrates every day is noticed by all those she encounters.”

Neufeldt is currently the Vice President of Student Engagement & Enrollment Services at Old
Dominion University (ODU). Dr. Neufeldt oversees more than 300 Student Engagement &
Enrollment Services staffers organized into over 20 units. The division contains functional areas
such as admissions, career management, intercultural relations, registrar, institutional research,
housing, financial aid, and student support. Prior to joining ODU, Dr. Neufeldt served as Vice
President of Student Affairs at Salisbury University. She also worked diligently to promote the
University's enrollment growth while enhancing student diversity and the academic profile of the
incoming classes. Dr. Neufeldt has been a chief student affairs and enrollment officer for over 11
years. She has been a dedicated member of NASPA for 20 years, worked on the region II and III
NASPA boards, and led the Volunteers and Special Projects Committee for the 2008 conference.

The Pillars award is designed to honor individuals who have served as teachers, leaders, and
scholars in the field who:

• Sustained professional distinction in the higher education field, as defined by donors and
supporters;
• Served in leadership roles in NASPA, either regionally or nationally;
• Are recognized or remembered by colleagues, friends, students, or student organizations
for extraordinary service; and
• Have made significant lifetime contributions to the higher education field.

The class of Pillars will be honored at the 2017 NASPA Annual Conference in San Antonio,
Texas. As part of the Pillars program, the NASPA Foundation accepts gifts in the name of each
honoree. These gifts come back to the student affairs profession as scholarships, research grants
and awards.
