Washington, D.C. — December 4, 2024 - NASPA – Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education is proud to announce the release of its latest report, The Transformative Potential of Artificial Intelligence: Recommendations for Student Affairs Leaders. Authored by Dr. Claire Brady, the report is a collaborative effort between Glass Half Full Consulting and NASPA. It examines the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education, offering actionable strategies and a phased framework to guide institutions in responsible and impactful AI adoption.

As colleges and universities navigate evolving student needs, financial challenges, and digital transformation, AI has emerged as a powerful tool to enhance student support, streamline operations, and inform data-driven decision-making. The report emphasizes the importance of adopting AI responsibly, focusing on transparency, equity, and ethical governance."This report is designed to provide student affairs professionals with a roadmap for adopting AI tools responsibly, ensuring they enhance—rather than replace—the human connections at the center of our work,” said Dr. Brady.

The report includes 14 real-world examples of AI being implemented in higher education, such as AI-driven chatbots for student support, predictive analytics for academic interventions, and generative-AI tools for creating personalized learning materials. It also forecasts 70+ future applications, emphasizing the importance of staying at the forefront of this rapidly advancing technology. As institutions increasingly adopt AI, the report underscores the critical role of ethical governance and a student-centered approach. It emphasizes the need for professional development to build AI literacy and maintain the human connections central to student affairs work. "AI is reshaping higher education, offering tools that can enhance operational efficiency and student engagement. However, its potential will only be realized through strategic planning, deep cross-campus collaboration, professional development, and a bold vision for the future. This report offers ideas for student affairs leaders to reflect on as they navigate this transformative era,” said Dr. Jhenai Chandler, Vice President for Research and Policy.
